Rethinking Northampton - Interior Architecture and Spatial Design

UoN and 78 Derngate are pleased to present  an exhibition of work created by students on the BA Interior Architecture and Spatial

Design course. The course focuses on developing professional design skills that creatively solve three dimensional and spatial problems. Based in studio environments students undertake projects informed by historical and contemporary design, current trends, social contexts and the relationships of other Art and Design disciplines to Interior Design, Architecture and Spatial Design. The work on display in this exhibition has been produced by our first and second year students. All design briefs have focused on the repurposing and/or regeneration of buildings and sites located in Northampton.

Innovating with Northampton’s Industry - BA & BSc Product Design

The UoN and 78 Derngate are also pleased to present a showcase of the work created by students on the BA & BSc Product Design course.

Product Design challenges ideas of functionality, aesthetics, materials, sustainability, social contexts and ethics so that students can design products that work and make a difference to society. This mindset will be put into practice with industry projects and contemporary technologies. Collaborative working is a recurrent aspect of design, as the development of a new product invariably involves participating in multi-disciplinary team. Students are encouraged to engage in 'live-client’ projects with local businesses, international companies and charities such as Sue Ryder Care.

The work on display in this exhibition has been produced by second year students and include a Bluetooth enabled speaker and a flat-pack plywood ‘Balance Bike’ suitable for computer-aided-manufacture (CAM) and home assembly. All projects incorporate a strong graphic identity and product branding.
