“To preserve the historical, architectural, aesthetic and constructional heritage of 78 Derngate for the benefit of the people of Northampton and the Nation at large.”

1998 will see the formation of a new charitable trust in Northampton – the 78 Derngate Trust. The Trust, which has been sponsored by a local benefactor, will oversee the restoration and operation of 78 Derngate as a heritage centre dedicated to Charles Rennie Mackintosh and W.J. Bassett Lowke. The Trust will also co-ordinate fund-raising activities and grant applications.

The Borough Council is now pursuing the registration of the Trust with the Charities Commission and is looking forward to seeing the new 78 Derngate Trust launched in early 1998.
