Designed and remodelled by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1916, 78 Derngate has been meticulously restored and opened to the public.
On-site: a boutique restaurant, light-filled art galleries, a stylish design shop and elegant spaces that can be hired for meetings, events and functions.
78 Derngate was the architect's final major commission; his visionary patron, Northampton model engineer, W.J Bassett-Lowke. It is the only place outside Scotland in which Mackintosh's mature architectural and interior style can be seen in their original setting. As such, the house has drawn many thousands of visitors from around the globe.

Famed, not only for its Charles Rennie Mackintosh design but now also as an elegant and special venue. Now in its second year, Architecture Week celebrates architecture, community, heritage and sustainability through a series of talks, workshops and exhibitions. Sponsored by RIBA East Midlands, The Northampton Society of Architects and EH Smith, and hosted by MWK Architects, it promotes understanding and appreciation of the role of architecture within a community, historic preservation and sustainable design.
Held at 78 Derngate on Monday October 6th to Friday October 10th from 18:00 to 20:00 these series of evening talks are designed to focus on many aspects of architecture and the varied topics - given by leading experts in their field - are as follows:

We are delighted to be hosting The Northamptonshire Guild of Designer Craftsmen (NGDC) here again in our Barwell Room. The Guild has been running since 1990 with a membership of men and women who make high quality work across a wide range of crafts, including wood, textiles, ceramics and glass.
While staying true to traditional core craft values, the Guild aims to promote excellent craftsmanship and design and to spark wider interest and awareness of handmade work. It also brings makers together who often work alone, helping them to share and promote work collectively.
Exhibitions in galleries, such as ours here at 78 Derngate, give members the chance to show new and exciting pieces to far-reaching audiences locally, nationally and through their links in Sweden.
All work will be for sale and will undoubtedly provide excellent inspiration for some rather special Christmas presents! Open Tuesday to Sunday 10.00am to 4.30pm - entry free to Exhibtion.

The Mackintosh-designed interior and exterior of 78 has been sensitively restored to the original 1916 scheme. The whole of 80 is completely remodelled to create a new visitor centre and exhibition space.
From a coffee to a light lunch, full afternoon tea or a delicious meal - The Dining Room is sure to delight. Combine with a visit to the Mackintosh House for a fabulous day out.
We can offer a number of stylish and beautiful spaces for hire within our buildings - all of them designed by leading architects. Our on-site team can offer catering for your event.

Though 78 Derngate is but a small terraced house in the English midlands it has been the subject of much comment over the years. Its remodelling by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1916 -17 created something that has fascinated people for a century.
