The award-winning architects, John McAslan & Partners of London, designed the renovation of the final part of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh House & Galleries Project. 82 Derngate, like 78, has had a long and chequered history. Built sometime between 1810 and 1815, it passed through several owners' hands including Northampton High School for Girls. Acquired by the 78 Derngate Northampton Trust, the house has been transformed into a stunning combination of Regency grandeur and ultra-modern efficiency housing new facilities including:

The Dining Room
A stunning boutique-style restaurant serving a selection of gourmet teas, coffees and cakes, light meals and hot lunches, all home made from locally-sourced produce. Don't miss the piece-de-resistance, the reinvention of the classic afternoon tea.

Showcasing quality contemporary gifts, jewellery and crafts from modern designer makers as well as books, cards and gifts featuring Mackintosh, his contemporaries and other significant figures from the history of art. THE GALLERY UPSTAIRS

Housed in these stunning new galleries feature temporary exhibitions from both regional and local artists and makers.

2009 Gallery Events

February 3rd - April 19th: 'Sewing and Growing' . Contemporary Craft for your House and Garden. A range of everyday household items made beautiful and individual in the hands of talented makers.

April 25th - July 12th: 'Desire'. An inspiring and eclectic selling exhibition in collaboration with Design Factory showcasing contemporary designers/makers from the East Midlands.

May 1st - May 4th: The Bassett-Lowke Society. A working layout of Bassett-Lowke models and trains.

July 18th - October 4th: Top Dog. Designed with animals in mind, a contemporary craft exhibition.

October 10th - December 20th: Linda Miller. Top embroiderer comes to Derngate.

October 10th - December 20th: The Bounteous Mid-Winter Bazzar. A scrumptious collection of goodies to inspire and tempt.

Our friends at The Bassett-Lowke Society have lent us this fantastic clock which originally belonged to Mr G P Keen.  Mr Keen was chairman of Bassett-Lowke Ltd. from 1927 to 1930.
