Eat, drink, relax and enrich at 78

78 Derngate: The Charles Rennie Mackintosh House & Galleries now has more than ever to offer you.

Along with the stylish The Dining Room restaurant, the shop full of gift ideas and the only house in England designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, there's THE GALLERY UPSTAIRS too!

Thanks to an Arts Council England Grant, The Gallery Upstairs will showcase the best of regional contemporary craft.

The first show to come under the Arts Council England umbrella will be Katie Mawson's show 'Stranded', July 12th - August 31st.  Delightfully described as 'painting with yarn' Katie utilises her craft skills to create exquisite wall-hung figurative artwork.

In 2006 visitors to 78 Derngate enjoyed the beautiful new sculpture by Rebecca Newnham called Seedlings. Rebecca took her inspiration from the decoration in the Hall/Lounge in 78 Derngate.

The second part of the Seedlings sculpture was installed in 2007.  78 Derngate is one of the nineteen museums across the East Midlands benefiting from Museumaker. Launched in 2006, Museumaker is an ambitious partnership programme to develop new relationships, new work and new audiences for contemporary craft and museum collections. It brings together three key agencies - Arts Council England, East Midlands, Museums, Libraries, and Archives Council (EMMLAC) and Renaissance, East Midlands – to work collaboratively for the first time.
