78 Derngate was also named in 2008 as Northamptonshire's Museum of the Year. This award was received at the third annual Northamptonshire Renaissance Heritage Awards ceremony at Sulgrave Manor.
Both awards recognise not only the restored house, but also the facilities in 82 Derngate, which houses the shop, restaurant and galleries.
Keith Barwell, who has been the chairman of the 78 Derngate Trust since 1998, and his wife Maggie have stood down as trustees. Trust secretary Les Patterson paid tribute to the Barwells, saying their efforts had helped the trust to be so successful in its first decade of existence.
He said "Without their generosity, both of time and money, and their enthusiasm for the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the trust would have struggled to achieve the recognised success it is today." Mr Barwell had alluded to a lifelong desire to 'travel the world in a camper van', prompting the trustees to present him with a VW camper van cake.
Mr and Mrs Barwell will remain as patrons to 78 Derngate and Mr Peter Gould has been appointed as the new chairman.
