The Northamptonshire Botanical Artists Society presented A Brush with Botanica, an exhibition of original botanical paintings July 24th to August 30th 2010.
The Northamptonshire Botanical Artists Society mounted this exhibition of their work in the Bassett-Lowke galleries within the 78 Derngate complex.
Plants have been portrayed by artists for many reasons and can be traced as far back as the ancient Greeks and Egyptians. In more recent times, botanical art provided a means of scientific identification and an accurate record of species. Botanists and artists were deployed on plant-finding expeditions to far away destinations.
The foundations of the Northamptonshire Botanical Artists Society is rather more recent. The membership is diverse in both age and ability but united in their aim to support the development of their work and showcase the results.
A Brush with Botanica was free to enter. Many items were available to purchase.
